Voie, Voix, Vois (2023) - Gaël Santisteva, Antoine Leroy, Saaber Bachir

This project is the result of an encounter between Saaber Bachir, Antoine Leroy and Gaël Santisteva, during the creation of Cabaret Cosmos by Les Ateliers Indigo (Brussels, December 2022). This Brussels association supports around twenty artists with disabilities, active in plastic arts, stage and music workshops. It provides them with a personal space to develop their practice, as well as a team of qualified artists to support and train them.

The performance Voie, Voix, Vois was specially designed for the Garden Party program, organised by Théâtre des Doms. It will take the form of a collaborative trio between a musician (Antoine Leroy), a dancer, singer, actor (Gaël Santisteva) and a poet, singer, actor, designer (Saaber Bachir). Taking its primary sources from the art of ventriloquism and its derivatives, it will probe questions of legitimacy, power and freedom, submission and control.

Voie, Voix, Vois was created from 6 till 27 July 2023 in Avignon, as part of Garden Party #3, at Théâtre des Doms / Festival OFF d'Avignon.

After TALK SHOW (2017), Garcimore est mort (2021) and Voie, Voix, Vois (2023), Gaël Santisteva will create Piñata Cake in March 2025 in Brussels.

It's a delightful treat, this atypical trio leading the show with cheetah print shorts, caps, and fitting sneakers. (...) It's mischievous and clever, playful and full of charm. The voices take unexpected paths, wandering down the donkey’s trail, but on the right track. And we can see it all clearly, in complete empathy with the obvious simplicity of the performance. (...) Our counterfeit heroes seem untamable, endowed with a magical power: the ability to woo and captivate the audience with little more than human and fraternal warmth. An emotional, generous performance, a hundred percent purebred, with neither a horse’s tail nor a mule’s head. Gaël Santisteva, as the bandleader and captain, stands at the forefront of a collective formation, each member so individualized that none loses its identity!
Geneviève Charras, 20.11.24

[ Interview ] Gaël Santisteva displaces us! The creator, who likes the outside of the frame, creates with Voie Voix Vois (VVV), a protean stage work, between musical poetry, movement and theatre. This confluence of genres also celebrates the emotion of a meeting: with Saaber Bachir, artist with alternative perceptions, and Antoine Leroy, musician and artistic coordinator of Ateliers Indigo.
Interview with Antoine Neufmars, Charleroi danse, April 2024

Voie, Voix, Vois presents itself as a performance probing questions of legitimacy, power and freedom, submission and control at the heart of live performance. The trio sets up a skilful canvas. Brought together by creativity, the three performers never leave the audience on the sidelines, which teams up with them for their peregrination. Between theatre, circus movements, a kind of stand-up, movement on rolling trays and embroidery (splendid orange carpet), our trio creates without any constraint. A wind of freedom blows on the set of the Garden Party, like the Mustangs, these wild horses free in their movements, threatened not to be it any more by a law recognizing their dangerousness to them. Antoine Leroy, Gaël Santisteva and Saaber Bachir have acquired their space of freedom, that of the stage. But until when? Our trio changes the way we look at artists with disabilities, on the creative act itself, and celebrates the strengths of collaborative work.
Voie, Voix, Vois is a joyful performance, well crossed, which revives our joys of discoveries in the performing arts.
Laurent Bourbousson, ouvertauxpublics, 23.07.23

Performance that brings together a poet, singer, actor (Saaber Bachir), a musician (Antoine Leroy), and a dancer, singer, actor, performer (Gaël Santisteva) and, as the title suggests without really saying it, it is about bringing different people together. The voices, distorted by the sound system, are a first approach, rather systematic, as if they were those of ventriloquists or anonymous witnesses interviewed on TV. The subject, via his addresses to the room, has something of a debonair stand-up. Everything is here in the complicity between the accomplices between them and with the public. And it is obvious that the pleasure they feel plays the contagion with that felt by the spectators. Symbolically, one of Saaber's obsessions, the mustang (whose embroidery on fabric exhibits the portrait) suggests mobility, freedom of movement and games, the need for spaces to explore without constraining authority. Behind an apparent spontaneity, the elements are put in place, organized in a playful way. Vocal discourse, choreographies close to hip-hop, street arts intermingle with enthusiasm under the aegis of this paradox: the organized rawness.
A testimony of the pleasure of living, creating, collaborating between people with marked differences achieving a collective work in equity of creativity, performance, solidarity.
Michel Voiturier, Webtheatre.fr, 16.07.23

Voie, Voix, Vois, - plural scenic object -, takes us on the adventure born at the Ateliers Indigo, a Brussels organisation that supports artists with disabilities in their work, particularly related to the visual arts and music. This is where the meeting between the three protagonists of this opus took place, where both textile and vocal textures upset the established order.
A space-time of affirmed freedom, questioned, reflected. And vividly lived.
Marie Baudet, La Libre Belgique, 12.07.2023
