Baptiste Cazaux (FR)
Baptiste Cazaux was born on June 14, 1997 in Bayonne (FR). He is currently based in Geneva (CH).
In 2015, after training in classical and contemporary dance at the Gillet-Lipszyc Ballet School in Biarritz and obtaining his Baccalauréat, he joined the Ballet Junior de Genève under the direction of Patrice Delay and Sean Wood. During his training, he took part in a large number of workshops and danced repertory pieces as well as original creations by international contemporary choreographers, including Olivier Dubois, Sharon Eyal, Barak Marshall, Thomas Hauert and Angelin Preljocaj, among others.
In 2018, he took part in the creation of TRACES#Genève #2050 by choreographers Jozsef Trefeli and Mike Winter, presented at the ADC in Geneva. He returned to the same stage a few months later as a performer in Jan Martens’ Rule of Three. He also presented his first creation EXERCICE DE STYLES #2 during the Quarts d’Heures at Théâtre Sévelin 36 (Lausanne, CH).
In 2019, Baptiste joined Ayelen Parolin’s company Ruda for the creation of the piece WEG and became one of the central figures in the choreographer’s work, notably in her piece SIMPLE (2022). He took part in the Pro-Helvetia “Lausanne/Montreal” residency exchange program between Théâtre Sévelin 36 and Circuit Est, during the TransAmériques festival. He is also invited by Véronique Ferrero Delacoste to create a full-length version of his piece EXERCICE DE STYLES #2 as part of the Extratime program at far° in Nyon.
Rares Donca included him in the third series of associated artists at L’Abri (Geneva, CH) for the 2020-2021 season. Valérie Niederoest and Philippe Saire also integrated him to the group of associated artists at Théâtre Sévelin 36 (Lausanne, CH). These two partnerships enable him to develop his second piece perfect pitch, created in close collaboration with musician and performer Nelson Schaub (aka Être Peintre). This piece was presented in 2021 at festival Emergentia in the Pavillon de la danse in Geneva, at the festival Les Printemps du Théâtre Sévelin 36 and at the 2022 edition of Artdanthé festival at Théâtre de Vanves (FR).
In 2021, he danced at the Avignon Festival in Jan Martens’ creation any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones, before touring a number of European venues and festivals.
During his residency at L’Abri, Baptiste Cazaux created the short solo meditation on pretty fast music (2021). This solo was presented at L’Abri, at the Guyenne Sound System festival (Saint Robert, France) and at the Grand Luxe network platform, to which he was an associated artist during the 2021-2022 season.
In 2022, Baptiste received a Pro-Helvetia grant to take part in the Impulstanz festival’s ATLAS program (Vienna, AT).
In September 2023, Baptiste created the solo GIMME A BREAK!!! at l’Abri, in the frame of La Bâtie - Festival de Genève.
In parallel with his personal projects, Baptiste is regularly performing as a DJ under the alias Glaire Waldork. He is also a performer in Simple (Ayelen Parolin) and in Katerina Andreou’s next group piece (June 2024).
